Fisherman, Environmentalists, Tourism Industries, and Local Governments to Suffer the Consequences of Oil Spill

The U.S. coastline from Louisiana down to Florida stands in serious danger as the citizens and industries in the area await the consequences of the on-going British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf Stream that began on April 20th.  Fisherman and property owners are filing oil spill lawsuits to recover damages for lost income and property damage.  If you are a fisherman or business owner, the lawyers at the Levensten Law Firm can represent you in your oil spill lawsuit.  If you would like Mr. Levensten to represent you or a loved one, please contact us through this site www.levenstenlawfirm.com or our sister site, www.pharmainjurylawyer.com.  You may also feel free to email Mr. Levensten at sdl@levenstenlawfirm.com, or call the firm’s toll free number (800)-510-1325.

While it is impossible to know how much oil has continued to spill into the stream, the Coast Guard has reported that there has been at least 1.6 million gallons spilled thus far. The initial blow of the Transocean rig killed 11 workers and the damage to the coastline has yet to reach its peak. This area is among the world’s most productive fishing grounds and may be facing catastrophe as the oil will continue to make its way down towards the coast. A fisherman from Mississippi, Jimmy Rowell, stated in a recent ABC News article, “It’s over for us. If this oil comes ashore, it’s just over for us. Nobody wants oily shrimp.” Along with the fisherman in the area, the tourism industries fear crisis when no one will want to visit oil tanned beaches and therefore the local governments stand to loose a great deal in income. Also, environmentalists worry about the animal life and coral reefs in and near the Gulf.

With no clear estimate of the amount of oil that stands to leak into the Gulf, citizens in the area expect the worse, while federal officials and BP are preparing for the worst case scenario.
